Kabinda is the capital of Kabinda District in Kasai-Oriental Province. During the Second Congo War (1998 - 2003) the city was destroyed by fighting between Congolese and Rwandan forces on their way to secure the diamond mines of Mbjui-Mayi. Today, the crystals of Kabinda are mined almost entirely by the hands of Congolese men.
