Basankusu Necktie

Basankusu is a trading city along the Congo River. It was a prime site for the extraction of rubber during the reign of King Leopold of Belgium. The human rights abuses that took place here led to the expulsion of King Leopold and ultimately to the freedom and independence of the local people. Today, palm oil and coffee trade flourishes in Basankusu.
